There is a longing, a love, a desert of separation,
But we are on this path—where the destination is, I don't know.
Jo guzar gaye is rah-e-‘ishq se humse pehle,
Woh himmat-e-sabāt kahaan se laaye, na jaane.
Woh himmat-e-sabāt kahaan se laaye, na jaane.
Those who passed on this path of love before me,
Where they found that courage to stay firm, I don't know.
Where they found that courage to stay firm, I don't know.
Agar kahīñ hon ham-safar bhi hamāre se chunīnda,
Dil hai ke bane madadgār-e-be-saahil, na jaane.
If there are other chosen travelers like me,
My heart still wants to help them, even in this shoreless ocean—I don't know how.
My heart still wants to help them, even in this shoreless ocean—I don't know how.
Kuza-e-dil mein hai toofān-e-pināñ be-sadā,
Alfaaz paaty nahi — mile tasallī kaise, na jaane.
There is a silent, hidden storm inside this closed heart.
I can't find any words—how will I ever find any comfort, I don't know.
I can't find any words—how will I ever find any comfort, I don't know.
Kashtī-e-‘umr mein the tanhā ba-hawās-e-khatar,
Har simt sahm bhi tha, hausla bhi — kyun, na jaane.
I was alone in the boat of life, fully aware of the danger.
In every direction, there was fear, but also courage—why, I don't know.
In every direction, there was fear, but also courage—why, I don't know.
When a drowning person didn't even want to be saved,
Even then, a prayer that wasn't for himself came out from the heart—I don't know.
Even then, a prayer that wasn't for himself came out from the heart—I don't know.
Abdullah bhi hai us rah-e-nāpursīda ka musafir,
Abdullah is also a traveler on this less-traveled path.
When my heart will get that moment of victory in this journey—that moment, I don't know.
When my heart will get that moment of victory in this journey—that moment, I don't know.

Insha’Allah we will get there.
